I don't think I would've been able to breastfeed for over a year without this bag. I took it everywhere with everything in it, so I was able to replenish and increase my baby's supply of breastmilk at home everyday. Sure beats spending thousands of bucks a month on milk, you know! :) And no one really knew what I had in the bag anyway, hehe.

Michael Crichton died last Tuesday. :(

  Shucks, I'm really going to miss this guy. I really think that he added a lot of science, theory and drama to the "scifi" genre. My high school and college days wouldn't have been as exciting without his stories, so God bless his soul.

"He will be profoundly missed by those whose lives he touched, but he leaves behind the greatest gifts of a thirst for knowledge, the desire to understand, and the wisdom to use our minds to better our world."

Taken from the New York Times. Read on...
Moymoy Palaboy, where have you been all my life?!

    First off, it's so good to finally have an internet connection at home again (after almost a month!). Albeit on and off, I maximize when it's on.

Anyway, I heard of Moymoy Palaboy in August and didn't really have a chance to check them out. Their videos are the ultimate stress relievers by far! Miss the good ol' street humor with a punch? Think Bulagaan '88! Simple, idiot prood and oh so hilarious.

I am one of the recent fans of the comic duo (specifically TONIGHT!) and if you haven't seen them, it's not too late. Check our their channel on www.youtube.com. They can also be seen in the local comedy show Bubble Gang. Last night, a friend told me a story about celebrities such as Ogie Alcacid and Regine Velasquez having their photos taken with the duo and the guard at the network asked them, "Ano ba'ng banda n'yo? 'Di ba dapat kayo ang nagpapa-picture sa kanila?" Ah, the beauty of the internet. :)
Transcription errors = What are people learning these days?

    I'm reading a transcript right now and the interviews are ok. It's the way they're typed that worries me. Here are some examples:

exceed = excide
three = tree
without = with out
leaving = living
aesthetics = esthetics
a lot = alot
minamaliit = minamaliet
seryoso = siryoso

The first time I read such errors, I always think that they're just typos since transcribers are usually rushing. But sometimes they're consistent with their errors and that makes me wonder if that's really how they think the words are spelled. There's also the fact that they may not really be listening to what the people in the interview are really trying to say.

This isn't the first time I've received a transcript which other people find funny. I think it's rather sad. Majority of the staff I've worked with in TV are very, very good, but a lot of them are not being properly trained, or are not being trained at all. For some people, they find errors funny. "Ah, 'di marunong mag-English!...

Mac superdrive, mac superdrive, burn me a [freakin'] disc...

   What is up with this day?!?!

*Note: It's 133am so it's still Saturday to me!

Some months ago, my mac stop reading my data discs, and video dvds as well. So I have several things changed. New optical drive, new bottom casing, new battery, the works. It cost a little under a new 2nd hand powerbook, but we paid for it anyway. They even upgraded y Toast software, which was great.

But recently my toast software started screwing with my discs (and my head) again, so I used J's powerbook to burn DVD videos. Now I want to burn the data for the video into a data disc because I'm OC like that. Everything needs to be saved. So I try J's mac again but apparently, it doesn't want to burn data!

So ok. I'll borrow Paige's because she's coming home this weekend. [Insert buzzer SFX] Wrong again! It will start burning, but there's always an error! Gaaah!

This has been my day so far, just to give you a picture.

First, Layla woke up sick.
Ok, so based on Friday night's rumors, the Eheads reunion was cancelled. But as of Sunday, they're back on road to a rockin' reunion this Saturday.
Keep babies and mothers alive and well: Know the Reproductive Health Bill

I got this from Nina and I decided today that I would like to support this bill.

When I got pregnant, I did a lot of research on anything and everything under the sun about parenting and having a babym but there are people out there who either have no access to this information, no money to see a physician or an OB-GYN, no concern for such knowledge, or, worst of all, no one in their family or network who cares about their reproductive health, or cares about them at all.

We need more programs and services that help educate the youth so that they don't grow up being afraid of getting pregnant or getting someone pregnant. They can look forward to controlling their lives, having kids when they're ready and living healthy lives. At the same time, we need programs that will help parents and newly weds, everyone because we all need to be informed, or to at least have access to this information when we need it.

So anyway, here's the bill.
Word on the street: Eraserheads concert is officially cancelled.

   I posted about the Eraserheads concert being in danger of cancellation, and then word got out that the concert was pushing through because the law states that a tobacco company may not sponsor an event but they may organize one. They played the private party card and it worked...until text messages spread last night announcing that the concert was officially cancelled. Why? Because the DOH wouldn't give an event permit anyway.

Aside from a post on Odyseeylive.net, I haven't seen anything on the news. Probably because it's a lazy Saturday afternoon, but everyone's talking about it and if it's true, then this is really, really sad news. I read that some fans actually flew home just to watch the show. There's an anonymous comment on Odysseylive that someone flew in from Italy! Ouch!

There's a lot of interesting talk about why this happened, who's to blame, how sad this is for Filipino music, but in the end, I think that there is A LOT TO LEARN from this.&nb...

Toll fee for bikes on your car?

There's a discussion going on in a triathlon mailing list about having to pay extra at the toll gate if your car has bikes on a bike rack. Here is one story:

When i came home from the AAV Tri, I had my bike on the roof. As i exited into C5, the guy tells me i should pay P130, which is Class 2. Just to shake him off, I said 'Eh kung ilipat ko sa loob ng kotse ngayon?'...he replied...'Sige sir, tapos P65 nalang'.

Kinda dumb since I had already exited. Was he really gonna tag me as Class 2? or was he going to pocket the balance?

For a lot of bikers, this is all a bunch BS. It would've been an acceptable rule had it been enforced properly or if the guidelines were clear. Some bikers have even been warned because their racks are not registered with the LTO. So after all this hullabaloo, someone actually made calls to the Northern and Southern Expressway offices yesterday to get some answers.

Guys, I took the liberty of calling both NLEX and SLEX and here's the low do...

   Check these out.
Anti-smokers, Anti-Ereaserheads

    I just woke up to such sad, sad news. The Department of Health is opposing the Eraserheads reunion concert this month not because they don't like the band but they don't like the brand behind them.

The marketing strategy behind this event, from the rumors of a band getting back together to the announcement that it was actually the Eraserheads, was an amazing feat. It was the talk of the town and the E-heads frenzy could be felt from record stores to karenderias playing E-heads tunes.

Now that news publications have reported that it's a Marlboro event and that Philip Morris is the mother of it all, the anti-smokers did their homework and are using a new law to get back at the tobacco company. Republic Act No. 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 prohibits cigar companies from sponsoring sports, cultural, and artistic events of individual or team athletes, artists and performers.

This took effect on July 1. Just recently!

So all I can say about...

PROJECT HOT MOMMA Update #1: Maximum Growth

     So this is it. Project Hot Momma has officially begun (based on my bitching in my last post). First of all, my good friends in TV rewarded me with gift certificates for Human so I have new clothes. Yey! Update #1 is about improving my looks/hygiene, but buying new clothes isn't my first task. It's to stop biting my nails! This is where all my close friends and family say "ows?!?!"

Anyone who has grown up with me and worked with me knows that I am a notorious nail biter. I used to bite my nails a bit in grade school (which was gross because sometimes I'd still have chalk under my nails from gymnastics), but that all stopped when I got braces in high school. My braces were taken out right before I started college in Ateneo and I thought I had kicked the habit completely...until I shifted from Biology to Communication. Yes, communication, in theory, is an easier course, but when Department Head Doreen Fernandez accepted me, it was under the condition that...

As frightening and disturbing as suicide can be, this so-called suicide letter is more of a love letter of extremely moving proportions.

In the obituary published in The Guardian, it reads: "Gérard Horst and his wife Dorine have united in death as they were united for life."

Taken from The Sunday Times
October 14, 2007
My love, I cannot live without you

French philosopher Andre Gorz wrote his terminally ill wife a moving letter before their joint suicide last month.
FaceBook In Reality - idiotsofants.com and BBC'sThe Wall

This is absolutely hilarious, and I say brilliant as well because it shows how all these networking perks and habits online can be completely inapplicable in real life and in a very plain and simple fashion. friendship networks are fun, of course, but seriously, some people try to take it a little too far. Not as far as in this video naman, but you know what I mean.

Enjoy :)

A delayed reaction to death: I love you, Ansky

       I'm drunk right now and downing just one more Super Dry to get through all this. A dear friend from college passed away last Saturday and I just came from her wake. I was happy to see old friends there. People say that the formation years begin in high school but it's in college when you begin to really own your identity and you prove it by doing well in your career afterwards. You go for your dreams, earn money to buy things you've wanted for so long, and at the same time, you kind of lose touch with friends who were part of this whole identity formation process because you're so focused on reaching those dreams.

Ansky del Castillo was one of those friends who helped me own my identity. All my friends in college, including high school friends whom I still keep in touch with the best way I can, are part of that whole growth process. But sometimes you're so busy, you kind of forego little get togethers becuase you have work or you're watching the baby or just don't have enou...

Our batch reunion last Saturday was a success with 85 batchmates in attendance, plus dates and one teacher, Mr. Floro Elloso, whom I tried to call Floro a few times but it just didn't feel right. Haha!

As a member of the organizing committee Studio Z, we are thankful about the turnout. I especially enjoyed the kuchai pie. That really made a difference in what started out to be one of the worst days of my life. I think God made my day extra horrible so that I'd find the reunion extra fun in comparison. It's a mystery. :)

Although I will admit that since I was part of the production, I was more concerned with things going right. The program started hellulate, but we had good bands (The Haneps and Streamline, thank you so much!) and a good crowd and my goodness, our P&P hosts Pam and Paolo were amazing. I swear, some of us who are in media are actually thinking of hiring them for real events. I'm serious, guys! Wala nang hiyaan!

As it turned out, though, sin...

Pinoy Big Brother...I destroy lives.

   An article about the current Pinoy Big Brother season with teenagers and parents inside the house. I don't follow this show...I only watched a bit of it when Mich Dulce and Gaby dela Merced were on it, just to see how my friends were doing. But in general, I never thought that this show was made for the Filipino viewer. And this article by a teacher makes me very, very sad, because not only does the PBB department of ABS-CBN seem to be playing with lives...they may be shattering the foundations and formative years of teenagers. Seems to me that the department may not be thinking about the welfare of these kids (and their parents) after the show. Life after PBB. Now that's frightening.

Read on. Bahala na whether or not you agree with me. But just read it. Thanks.

***
Ronald Gue <ronniegue@yahoo.com> wrote:
Today’s (June 2, 2008) episode of Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) is so disgusting, I cannot even compose my thoughts out of sheer anger at the grossness of the whole concept of the sho...

Come South, Camsur! CWC, baby!

I'm in the Camsur Watersports Complex right now and honestly, I don't want to go home. Maybe to pick up the kids lang and bring them here. Haha! But this place is gorgeous and it's filled with framed photos autographed by worldclass wakeboarders. It's wonderful but sad at the same time because at this point, the world knows about Camsur but the locals don't. Even Caramoan Island, which will soon be made famous by Survivor Caramoan (watch out for that!!!), has not been visited by most of the locals here. Hopefully Filipinios will smarten about travelling because it's great to travel around the world; but when you haven't seen the beauty the beauty of your homeland, then that's just sad. Filipino travellers should know their homeland first before they can say they've really travelled. At least that's my opinion. :)

Dude, pare, it's the Golden Arches

So I took the Isarog Bus Line last night from Cubao to Naga City for the Kaogma Festival this weekend and in all my years of going out of town for work, I've never been to a bus stopover that had a Mcdo. It's also probably because most of my bus trips were for adventure races and racers would get the cheapest bus ride possible, so medyo karinderia type rin minsan yung mga stopover with nice, warm lugaw and mami. Mmmm. But this bus had lazyboy seats, TVs (we watched "Forbidden Kingdom") and a banyo in it. Huwaw! And no, I didn't use it. Haha! Was a little afraid, too, since I'm also chlostrophobic.

Point of the story, I was so excited to see Mcdo when I got off the bus for my banyo break in Quezon. Some guy was trying to sell me some buko pie and I just said, "Wow, may Mcdo pala dito?" Dang, what an effin' naive, conyo remark, dude, pare.
